Fr Rudolph Pinto appointed secretary for the CCBI
commission for liturgy

Sep 11: Fr Rudolph Raj Pinto, OCD (48), a member of the Karnataka province of
the Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD), has been appointed as the new secretary
of the CCBI commission for liturgy. The appointment was made during the
executive committee meeting of the CCBI held on September 10-11, in Bengaluru.
Fr Rudolph is highly qualified, holding an MSc in counselling psychology from
the University of Madras, a Licentiate, and a doctorate in liturgy from the
Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant’ Anselmo, Rome. Additionally, he holds a licentiate
in liturgical music from the same institution. His scholarly work includes a
Licentiate thesis titled ‘The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Its
Historical and Theological Perspectives’, and a liturgical music thesis titled
‘One Rite but Many Expressions: A Study of the Musical-Liturgical Treasury of
Vocal Diversity in the Communion Rite of Missale Romanum 2002’. His doctoral
thesis, ‘Munus Musicae Sacrae Ministeriale in Dominico Servitio’, explores the
ministerial role of liturgical music in the liturgical formation, with a focus
on applying Vatican II musical reforms to multicultural communities.
Born on September 1, 1976, in Gurpur, Mangaluru, Fr Rudolph began his education
at Pompei Primary School in Kandavara and completed his high school at Rosa
Mystica High School in Kinnikambla, Mangaluru. He joined the Order of Discalced
Carmelites, completing his novitiate at the Carmelite Monastery in Margao and
philosophical studies at Pushpashrama in Mysuru. He undertook his Regency at
Tapovana in Kushalnagar, Kodagu, and studied Theology at St Joseph’s
Inter-diocesan Seminary in Jeppu, Mangaluru. He made his Solemn Profession on
May 31, 2003, and was ordained as a priest on December 28, 2004, at Carmel Hill,
Bikarnakatte, Mangaluru.
Fr Rudolph has served in various roles within the church, including assistant
parish priest at San Salvadore Church in Honnavar, diocese of Karwar; parish
priest at St Sebastian Church in Matadakeri, Honnavar, Karwar; and superior at
Stella Maris in Honnavar. He was also the director and superior at Ranipura,
Mangaluru.
He is a visiting professor of liturgy at several institutes, including Kristu
Jyoti College in Bengaluru, Vijnananilayam: Institute of Philosophy and Religion
in Eluru, St Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary in Mangaluru, and Dhyanasadhana,
Dhyanavana, Ryshivana Institutes of Spirituality, Mysuru.

Convocation Ceremony @ Ryshivana
The Convocation Ceremony of Ryshivana 2023-2024 was held on 8th March 2023. Rev
Fr Silvetre D Souza, Provincial Superior of Discalced Carmelite Karnataka Goa
province and the President of Ryshivana Institute of Spirituality and Inner
Silence presided over the Holy Eucharist and the Convocation Ceremony. Fr
Alphonse Britto, Councilor in charge of Spirituality was the Chief Guest. The
course participants were given a personal memento and a Certificate for the
successful completion of the course. Rev Fr Rudolph Pinto, the Director
presented the program of Ryshivana.
Bethany Sisters of South Province had their Province Retreat @ Ryshivana. Fr
Rudolph Pinto, was the retreat preacher.
The Society of St Vincent De Paul, Bendur Unit had their recollection @
Ryshivana. They spent time in Prayer, exhortations, Adoration and Meditation.
A
course on Liturgical Spirituality was held in Ryshivana. Rev Dr Rudolph Pinto
was the resource person.
Mysticism course was held in Ryshivana as a part of Spiritual Renewal program.
The resource person was Rev Fr Deep Fernandes OCD.

The summer course of Ryshivana: Psycho-Spiritual Integration was concluded. All
through there were 75 participants who attended the course which began on April
6th. 8 weeks of program was well appreciated by all.
Summer course certificates were given by Rev Fr Ronald D Souza OCD, and Fr.
Rudolph Pinto called out the names of the participants.
The First part of the Summer program ended with the course- "Psychological
Health and Spiritual Well-being", by Fr Sunil OFM Cap. There were
40 participants.
The Summer Program and first summer retreat started at Ryshivana with 45
participants. Rev Dr Praveen D Souza was the resource person for the first
course of Summer Program. Rev Dr Rudolph Pinto preached the retreat.
A
course on "Suffering and Sanctification" was held in Ryshivana. Fr Joachim
Rodrigues was the resource person.
Two days residential retreat was conducted for the Legion of Mary, Mangalore
unit at Ryshivana. Rev Fr, Leo Lasrado, Fr Jeevan Tauro, Fr Ligoury Crasta & Mrs
Lavina Noronha were the resource persons.
A
course on Spiritual Growth-Being your higher self was held in Ryshivana. The
resource person was Fr. Richard Menezes, OCD.
A
course on Indian Spirituality was held in Ryshivana. Rev Dr Dominic Vas was the
resource person.
The Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province had their Annual retreat at Ryshivana.
The preacher was Rev Fr Joy Painathan. The retreat was very effective and
fruitful, which is revealed by the joyful faces.

course on " The Canonical aspects of Religious Life" was organised in Ryshivana.
Fr. Naveen Pinto was the resource person.

course on " Discernment of Spirits" was organized in Ryshivana. The resource
person was Fr.Rovel D Souza OCD.
HISTORY
We
are men religious of the Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD) of
Karnataka Goa province comprising of four States of the Western India
namely Karnataka, Goa, Maharastra and Gujarat. Ryshivana, a centre for
inner silence and contemplation was inaugurated in 2006. Since prayer
and contemplation is the charism of the Discalced Carmelites whose
founders, St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross, were the mystic
giants, the KG province undertook the task of setting up a centre which
would promote deep solitude and contemplation for those who look for it.

Ryshivana
promotes Indian Christian spirituality in collaboration with different
schools of spirituality, both Eastern and Western through a foundation
called SRI, which stands for Spirituality Research Institute. We will be
organizing long and short-term residential and non-residential
programmes on spirituality and related subjects for different people,
adopting such methods like lectures, research seminars and workshops. We
