Ryshivana is one of the
Spirituality institutes of the Karnataka-Goa Province of the Order
of Discalced Carmelites (OCD). The Carmelite Charism is to espouse
spiritual life and contemplation in the Church based on the
teachings of Sts. Teresa of Avila, John of the cross, Therese of
Lisieux, Edith Stein, Elizabeth of the Trinity and many others,
three of whom have been proclaimed by the Church as the Doctors of
Spiritual Life and Prayer.
The main purpose of this institute is to promote THE ART OF INNER
SILENCE AND CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER. All our activities, programmes and
the very atmosphere here are meant to promote spiritual life through
a lived-in religious experience and quality academic enlightenment.
Ryshivana, a centre for inner silence and contemplation was
inaugurated in the year 2006. It’s a place for those who seek deep
solitude and union with the Beloved.
“Ryshivana” as the name suggests is a garden or an abode of the
seeker. “Ryshi” in Sanskrit means an ascetic of ancient times who
lived in silence, solitude and contemplation. However, here we use
“Ryshi” as an acronym for Religion, Yoga, Spirituality, Health, and
Institute. “Vana” means garden or wooded area, a place conductive
for prayer meditation and contemplation, i.e., God experience.
Ryshivana also promotes and fosters the integral growth and
transformation of human person, his/her Religious Consciousness
